Each year, PPCCC provides 35,000 people on the central coast with health care services; including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, vasectomies, and safe and legal abortion care at our six health center locations. PPCCC also provides comprehensive sexuality education programs to help adults and teens make healthy decisions, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid sexually transmitted infection.
The Public Affairs Intern will assist in advancing our affiliate’s advocacy and policy goals at the local and state level. This role involves working with the Public Affairs team to manage patient advocacy programs, recruit volunteers, and engage with community stakeholders to support sexual amp; reproductive health and rights. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for reproductive justice, and a desire to learn about advocacy and political processes. Our internship offers valuable practical, hands-on experience in the field of public affairs and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the reproductive health and rights movement. The intern will receive on-the-job training and mentorship while applying their knowledge and skills in a non-profit organization. This is a grant-funded internship position based in Santa Maria, CA with a duration of about 6-9 months.ABOUT PLANNED PARENTHOOD’S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DEPARTMENT The goal of the Community Engagement Department is to initiate, support, and defend public policies that ensure access to reproductive health care and comprehensive sex education.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:· Coordinate and support Patient Advocacy Programs· Recruit and develop volunteers· Assist in organizing and coordinating advocacy events, including rallies, lobby days, and other public engagement activities· Assist in the creation of content for social media and other digital platforms to engage with stakeholders and advance advocacy goals· Support the Public Affairs team in developing and maintaining relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and alliesQUALIFICATIONS:· Currently enrolled or recent graduate from an accredited college/university· Great verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual English/Spanish is desired· Ability to communicate with diverse groups and individuals required· Excellent organizational skills required· Must have excellent computer skills with common web-based applications like Microsoft Office 365 (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), GoogleDocs, Canva, and ZoomPlanned Parenthood California Central Coast’s (PPCCC’s) compensation philosophy supports the organization’s mission,vision, and values. Each position has a salary based on market value and the organization’s pay levels. The starting salary for this position is $15.83/hour. As part of our commitment to pay equity, PPCCC does not negotiate salaries.Pay Differential: $0.50/hour bilingual Spanish/English differential pay is offered upon passing the language assessment test.
