We are hiring our first ever Design Manager to help us realize our mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them. This role will be responsible for building functional, efficient, and beautiful Modern Animal clinics with as much attention to detail and care as our team brings to every pet and client we serve.
This role will have deep specific expertise in test fits, design process, construction documents, permitting and construction administration as well as have excellent project management and communication skills, and thrive in a cross-functional environment.
In this role, we are looking for someone who is passionate about pets and the people who love them, and is excited about rolling up their sleeves to bring our mission to life as we grow. This role will require travel sufficient to deliver on our clinic development objectives (up to +/- 25%).What the job entails
- Independently manage the full design process for multiple, concurrent projects
- Create Test Fit’s for new projects
- Work with the Clinic and Operations Teams to review and approve Test Fit’s and drawings
- Research permit and entitlement information for each project
- Understand and manage and track the permitting process
- Work with the Real Estate team to evaluate potential sites and advise on design issues
- Work with the Construction Managers to help support the project during the Construction Administration phase
- Work with the Procurement Team to specify and confirm all owner furnished items
- Work with the New Clinic Opening (NCO) team to make sure each all information has been provided to complete the project and is ready to be turned over to the Operations Team
- Work with the Facilities team to provide them with all necessary documentation as well as feedback on any facilities issues
- Work with other internal teams such as Brand, Training, Finance, and others to ensure each projects success
- Clearly communicate any potential project issues and provide solutions to resolve them
- Visit the sites several times during the project process
- Help manage the punch list with the GC
- Provide weekly project updates
- Developed and maintain consultant budgets
- Create and update project design schedules
- Select, manage and onboard architects, engineers and other consultants
- Manage and maintain relationships with vendors
Why you'd be a great fit
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field
- 5+ years of design management experience
- 3+ years of veterinary, medical and/or retail experience
- Prototyping and standards experience a plus
- Proficiency in project management tools incl.: gant charts, spreadsheets, etc.
- Collaborative go-getter, willing to roll-up sleeves and be hands-on
- Enthusiasm for thinking outside the box to tackle complex problems
- Set and deliver on targets with ease
- Exceptional organization skills amp; ability to manage multiple project simultaneously
- Detail oriented and strategic, sweating the small stuff but also seeing the big picture, and able to easily assess the state of progress for projects and how best to accelerate
- Exhilarated by a high-paced, fast-changing and sometimes unpredictable environment
- Operate with high emotional intelligence and exceptional communication skills
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of CAD drawings, Slack, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Systems
