School-based Mental Health InternHigh Tech HighDeveloped by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September 2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. If you are motivated by these principles, we encourage you to join our team!HTH seeks School-based Mental Health Interns, to assist in providing counseling support for students in our schools, under the general direction of an assigned clinical supervisor.
Number of positions available: 8JOB SUMMARYThe School-based Mental Health Intern will provide well-rounded counseling services to students, and assist in developing treatment plans based on their needs, while ensuring the effectiveness and reevaluation of the plans.Duties include: Provides individual, group, and family counseling to assist students in overcoming behavioral/emotional challenges and guide students in the development of skills and strategies to achieve educational goals Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge Collaborates with other staff members to perform ERMHS assessments and develop service or placement recommendations Attends IEP and 504 meetings and contributes to the goals and planning for the students Acts as student advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations Refers students or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling programs and student’s progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives Gathers information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy Serves as a liaison to regional and community resources that provide services to students and parents in medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, and other needs Plans, prepares, and conducts in-service education for other school professionals on various topics applying to students with behavioral/mental health needs Prepares and maintains all required treatment records and reports Maintains confidentiality of records related to students’ treatment Communicates and collaborates with other staff and family members as a means of effectively supporting students and strategies at home and school as to optimize the overall program and progress of the student Performs other duties as assigned in line with requirements for credential and/or licensureThe ideal candidate would possess the following competencies: Ability to assess the needs of the student and influence the environment around those needs Communicate clearly through all mediums Maintain confidentiality of student records and information while working within a team setting Work effectively and cooperatively with students, parents, staff and community agencies Prepare reports, presentations, materials, and present in group settings Work independently under general supervision Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships and interpersonal skills with others using tact, patience, and courtesy Prepare and maintain accurate records and filing systems Utilize technology effectively Balance several job functions at one time and work under a heavy workload Work in and contribute to creating a performance culture and highly collaborative environment EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Counseling or Marriage and Family Counseling and be working towards LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT Licensure Possess valid California license as an Associate Social Worker (ASW), Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), or proof of application and receipt of Associate license within 90 days of hire date Possession of, or working toward, a California Pupil Personnel Services credential desired Experience working in a California School District or educational setting desired Experience working with at-risk or special education students desired Bilingual desired
