Variant classification is the cornerstone of accurate and responsible genetic testing. We are seeking a scientist with an advanced degree towork on clinical interpretation of variants observed in genes implicatedin hereditary cancer, cardiovascular disorders and other conditions. Inthis role, you will work closely with Color’s clinical genomeinterpretation scientists, medical geneticists, bioinformatics scientists,genetic counselors and software engineers. Color’s innovations insoftware, processes, and sequencing are lowering the cost of genetictesting and providing greater access to life-changing information. Thisis a great opportunity to be part of a clinical genetics team that is usingscience and technology to change population healthcare at a massivescale.How You'll Contribute:
  • Interpret clinical significance of genetic variants according to an established protocol based on a thorough review ofbiomedical literature and public databases. Write up a variantevidence summary that will be reported to Color’s clients andpublished in ClinVar. Up to 70% of your time will be dedicated to this task.
  • Assist in developing and improving tools and workflows toensure accurate and efficient processing and reporting ofgenetic variant analysis.
  • Assist in gene-disease association research to determineideal candidate genes for future clinical genetics products.
  • Prepare SOPs related to the scope of job responsibilities.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • A self-motivated, mission-driven team player with strong communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills and ability to critically evaluate scientific literature.
  • Ph.D. or M.S in the field of genetics, biological, or medical science with deep interest in understanding mechanisms of disease.
  • General understanding of NGS technology, bioinformatics and clinical genetics.
  • Prior experience conducting variant classification based on the ACMG guidelines is a bonus but not required.
  • Knowledge of SQL, programming languages, or data analysis tools is a bonus but not required.
