Job Description
Alation continues to hire for roles at various locations with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19 crisis. Everyone new to the Alation team, along with our current workforce, will temporarily work from home until it is safe to return to our offices.As the world’s leading data intelligence platform, Alation empowers hundreds of huge enterprise customersfrom Pfizer, to PepsiCo, to Munich Re, to the US Air Forceto make data-driven decisions and foster data culture in their organizations.
Now, Alation is seeking a dynamic leader to drive that same mission internally. If you take on this role, thenPORTFOLIO: you will hire, manage, motivate, and set the strategy for a small, smart, skilled team of- Data Engineers who populate our SnowflakeData Warehouse from source systemsincluding validation and data quality checksthen surface easy-to-use views,
- Data Analysts who tell stories with data (often using Business Intelligence tools like Tableau) to inform daily decisions and strategic choices throughout the business,
- and Data Scientists who write code (in Python amp; R) to do advanced analytics and create data products for internal use, or prototypes of data features to be baked into our customer-facing product by the ML engineering team
POSITION: you will- report to Alation’s co-founder and Chief Data amp; Analytics Officer
- pair with our amazing Tech Lead
- and work with the Executive Team to ensure that strategic planning is informed by data, and to define a data strategy empowering the whole organization to be more agile and rational
DUTIES: you will- Pull together the right people and processes for a high-performing team as a.
- recruiter: you know where to find the best data engineers, analysts, and scientists; how to distinguish the best from the rest; how to create a culture they’d want to be a part of and how to communicate it to them so they join
- mentor/coach: you listen well, given actionable feedback, and can help people advance their careers in the data space
- process optimizer: you can thoughtfully design processes for taking, triaging, and prioritizing requests; kicking off, checking in on, and debriefing complex projects; refining and communicating the team roadmap; etc.
- Design and implement systems through which the rest of the organization can work with the data amp; analytics team, and/or achieve autonomy through self-service analytics
