Job Description

As part of a Community Canvassing Team, the Community Ambassador will support CORE’s Public Health Team’s activities through canvassing targeted communities to share information on how to receive government services supporting nutrition, food access, transportation, and housing.
Canvassing is an effective way to share word-of-mouth messaging to people and canvassers are vital to direct community outreach. Community Ambassadors will primarily engage with Los Angeles County residents, as well as community leaders, influencers, and faith and community-based organizations to enhance the reach of CORE’s Public Health programming.This position is a temporary, full-time position that will end on May 31, 2024.Responsibilities:
  • Canvass and educate communities in Los Angeles County as part of CORE California’s Public Health Team
  • Pick-up and deliver outreach materials in-person to the CORE LA communities of service
  • Liaison between communities and Public Health Team
  • Provide culturally relevant and community centric feedback about target communities for effective outreach and mobilization efforts
  • Support outreach material coordination for CORE’s Public Health programming
  • Provide feedback about communities of service support needs and efficient processes to increase outreach impact in the target communities
  • Support with identifying informal leadership and support groups in communities to ensure complete engagement
  • Support with identifying and developing relationships with community members and CBOs who can participate in/lead response activities
  • Other duties as assigned
Scope and Travel:
  • Travel to and from CORE’s HQ in Los Angeles’ Chinatown District to communities across Los Angeles County, including East Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley, and the South Bay
Qualifications:
  • Experience in community education and transformation; social work or public health degree is a plus
  • Applicants must be over 18 and authorized to work in the US
  • Applicants must be able to commit to a regular weekly schedule till May 31, 2024
  • This is an active job, and applicants must be able to stand and move for much of their shift.
  • Familiarity in and experience working with social services, health care, or community activism preferred 
  • Candidates preferred to have experience working with underserved/under resourced communities in Los Angeles (Please indicate what location on your application) 
  • Fluency in another language, particularly Spanish, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese, is a distinct advantage; please mark this on your application
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals and individuals in distress 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills 
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment required 
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism 
  • Personal transportation to communities of services
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of community engagement experience
Skills and Competencies:
  • Geographic knowledge of Los Angeles County
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Background in data collection and management (preferred)
In accordance with CA law, the expected pay range for this CA position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
